NSWA involved in City of Edmonton Sustainability Planning

The City of Edmonton is working with Edmontonians to update its environmental strategic plan (The Way We Green). Their goal is to present a bold and innovative strategy to City Council in early 2011.

Through this process, the City is learning about the environmental challenges we may face as Edmonton grows; especially those related to water, air, fossil fuel, minerals and soil, climate, renewable resources, ecosystem services and waste absorption. NSWA is closely involved in The Way We Green, with NSWA members providing background papers on:

  2. Water quality: http://www.edmonton.ca/city_government/documents/Discussion_Paper_4_North_Saskatchewan_River_Water_Quality.pdf
  3. City discharges for the river: http://www.edmonton.ca/city_government/documents/Discussion_Paper_9__City_Discharges_to_River.pdf

We are also participating in stakeholder workshops during June, and this year will be working closely with the City to find synergies between our Integrated Watershed Management Plan and the City's environmental strategic plan.
