Starting with a full basin oveview, and then moving peice by peice through each sub-watershed, Watrecon Consulting did a fantatsic job of pulling together a solid socio-economic profiles for each region. This type of data analysis has never been done before. Census information follows municipal jurisdictional lines, yet subwatershed boundaries criss-cross all jurisdictions. By creating a socio-economic profile per subwatershed, we can see an accurate and astonishing picture of our population.

The data used in this report is drawn from the 2006 Census of Canada, and is available from Statistics Canada here.

The profiles for the sub-basins were calculated as the sum of the reported information for cities, towns, villages, summer villages and Indian reserves plus the portions of the rural areas (counties and municipal districts) that fell inside each sub?basin. The percentages of counties and
municipal districts, as well as some of the larger communities (Edmonton) were taken from AMEC 2007, Current and Future Water Use in the North Saskatchewan River Basin, which was prepared for the NSWA. Please note there is likely to be some variability in socio-economic characteristics within counties and municipal districts, and such differences are not captured in the analysis because census information is not available for specific portions of the counties and municipal districts.
