To celebrate the 2023 World Water Day, two speakers shared their knowledge and insights on Collaborating with Nature and Each Other. Dr. Glynnis Hood is an ecologist and Professor of Environmental Science and Vice Dean at the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus in Camrose. Prior to signing on with the university, she worked for 24 years in various protected areas, from Canada’s west coast to the subarctic. In July 2007, she left a 19-year career with Parks Canada’s warden service and followed her passion for teaching and research. Her research interests include aquatic ecology, wildlife management, and human-wildlife interactions. She is the author of Semi-aquatic mammals: Ecology and Biology and The Beaver Manifesto. Her first children's book, A Cabin Christmas, was released in November 2022. Glynnis will be discussing the human-wildlife interface, specifically as it relates to her favorite semi-aquatic mammal, the beaver! Tim Romanow, Executive Director of the Milk River Watershed Council, will be discussing the ways in which their organization works with neighbors across provincial and international borders. The Milk River Watershed Council prides themselves on practical projects that get their hands dirty and feet wet. Working directly with producers to be responsive to challenges like drought resiliency, wildlife and species at risk management, water quality, and riparian areas. As a transboundary watershed, they foster relationships with our Montana and Saskatchewan neighbors for the continued co-management of the Milk River water, land, and biodiversity.
